Profiles of Internship Scholarship Recipients - Summer 2008
written by Jada Jamison, Press Club Intern

Amber Russell
Webster University
Interning with Alton Telegraph

Though a talented editor, Amber, considers herself, first and foremost, a writer. Renowned for her professionalism and strong work ethic, Amber is also known for her long-standing involvement with Webster University's student newspaper, The Journal. Quick to deal out her opinion, Amber's editorials rank as some of the Journal's most though-provoking pieces. The senior communications major has contributed to the news, feature and lifestyle sections as well. In light of her diverse interests, Amber hopes her internship with the Alton Telegraph will offer her some much needed prospective. Amber says the internship will provide her an opportunity to study the successes of Alton's top reporters and to later apply those findings to her own career.

Kimberly Woods
Southeast Missouri State University
Interning with the Press Club of Metropolitan St. Louis

Kim is what some would refer to as a multiple talent. Currently pursuing an interdisciplinary degree in technical graphics, art, and mass communications, Kim not only writes and edits, but she also designs. As the features page editor of the university's student newspaper, The Arrow, some of her responsibilities include laying out spreads, writing copy, and making ads using Adobe Indesign and Photoshop. During the course of her internship with the Press Club, the Southeast Missouri senior hopes to make use her background with the newspaper along with the administrative work she has done with the university's Alumni Center.

Georgios Nikolaidis
Principia College
Interning with the United Way

Described as having a "spirit of freedom, independence, and liberation," Georgios' exemplary work both in and outside the classroom has culminated itself into an internship with United Way. This summer, the Principia College junior will be collaborating with KDHX radio station in an effort to launch all-new aggressive public relation's campaign in the fall. Georgios also will write feature stories on agency affiliates and conduct interviews to be broadcasted on KDHX. After completing his degree in communications, George plans to pursue a career in either public relations or radio broadcasting. Fond of all aspects of communications as well as public relations, Georgios hopes his intended career path will involve both disciplines.

Jada Jamison
Maryville University
Interning with the Press Club of Metropolitan St. Louis

Just one quick glimpse into Jada's planner reveals that she wears a lot of hats. Whenever she is not managing the student newspaper, Gateway Maryville, as editor and chief, she is assisting professors with classroom planning, writing for the university's public's relation's department, tutoring students, or working as a part-time receptionist. Holding multiple positions simultaneously has posed it challenges, admits the junior communications major. However, Jada believes her commitment and dedication to each organization will help prepare her for the intensity of a career in public relations. Jada hopes the internship with the Press Club will further her ambitions in becoming a stronger, more knowledgeable leader in every capacity that she serves.
